Web Counters
To maintain the professional image of George Mason University, we do not recommend web counters be included on university web sites.
Counters show the number of "hits" a page has received. Unfortunately, hits alone are a very poor rubric for analyzing visits to a web site. They don't indicate how many unique visitors a site gets, where they came from, or in what time frame the visits were received. It's a flat number that can be artificially inflated.
If you're interested in tracking visits to a web site you maintain, then Google Analytics is a recommended option.
